When Can Drones Fly?
List of Services
-
In Good Weather and Calm WindsList Item 1
Drones are not designed to operate in rain or windy conditions so flights may have to be rescheduled. Flights must always be 500 feet below clouds and 2,000 feet horizontally away from any clouds with at least 3 miles visibility. Commercial manned aircraft can fly in more adverse conditions.
-
When the Drone Constantly Remains in View of the PilotList Item 2
FAA regulations require the remote pilot to maintain constant visual contact with the drone during the flight. Therefore, long range flights, especially at low levels are not possible at this time.
-
At Night Under Certain ConditionsList Item 3
Our pilots have received the additional certifications to fly at night and over people, but night flights are much more limited and available for special conditions only.

When No Temporary Flight Restrictions Apply to Your Area.
The Forest Service and other agencies can request airspace closures when fighting fires and other activities. These closures are temporary and flights can be rescheduled once they are lifted.
